What happens when your clothes get holes? Do you mend them?
I recently purchased a very large lot of clothing and fabric from an estate auction, and I have found so many gems! Including this bundle of mended socks and stockings dating from the early to mid 20th century.
We often hear about our ancestors not wasting anything. They mended until they couldn’t mend anymore, and then they saved the remaining bits as scraps for more mending, for quilts, and for various projects (there were so many amazing fabric scraps in this lot as well!).
Hearing about it is one thing, but actually finding evidence is so much cooler! These socks and stockings were all meticulously mended and/or saved by their original owner, and here they are today, nearly a hundred years later—these items that would almost certainly end up in a landfill today. How amazing is that!
I would love for these to live on somehow. You will receive everything you see in the photos.
