Phenomenal Scottish Cairngorm brooch and pendant circa 1860.
This large brooch features an engraved solid silver setting (tested, unmarked) with a large center Cairngorm stone (an orange smokey quartz or citrine found in the Cairngorms of Scotland), surrounded by bloodstone, jasper, and agate.
These pieces were immensely popular in the the mid 1800s, a time when Victorians in England fell in love with all things Scottish (a sentiment with which I can definitely relate!).
Jewelry with this design and colorful use of stones was sometimes known as Scottish pebble jewelry, Scottish agate jewelry, or Scottish hardstone jewelry.
I love this piece because it can be worn as a brooch or a on a chain as a necklace, which makes it a very versatile piece.

Very well preserved and in wonderful condition with minor wear from age. The center stone has a very small chip, but it is not noticeable unless closely inspected with a magnifier.
