A beautiful example of Victorian mourning jewelry, this c. 1870s locket is fashioned in black onyx adorned with a seed pearl cross and delicate silver foliate detail. Symbolic of devotion and remembrance, the locket has a sturdy bail, ready to be worn on your favorite chain or ribbon.
The back of the locket opens to reveal a compartment beneath beveled glass, designed to hold a lock of hair or other cherished memento. Steeped in sentiment and history, this piece is a poignant keepsake from an era when love and loss were worn close to the heart.
The frame is made of sterling silver, unmarked, tested. There is a large brass jump ring on the bail, which can easily be removed if desired.

Lovely condition overall. One minor call out worth mentioning is that when you open the locket "door" on the back, the frame tends to come away from the mounting slightly. However, the frame is securely fastened to the mounting by a rivet at the top and does not slip around nor it is at risk of falling out. All you need do is press it gently back into place so it is flush with the mounting when closing the locket door again. Locket closes securely.
