Stunning gold filled “Prince of Wales” hair brooch in a swivel frame circa 1870s-1880s. Back side is a locket for holding a photo or another lock of hair.
Bail on the back makes this wearable as a pendant as well.
Oval frame is decorated with ivy leaves, symbolic of devotion, everlasting love, immortality, and fidelity. It was a symbol popularly used in sentimental jewelry in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Three Feathers, or Prince of Wales feathers, is the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales, and was a popular motif in jewelry during the Victorian era.
