A very striking wool challis dress c. 1850s to early 1860s in beautiful red and brown tones.
Form fitting bodice with wide pagoda sleeves and large skirt, pleated all the way around the waist. Decorative glass buttons accent the bodice, sleeves, and skirt, and moire silk ribbons trim the sleeves in bands.
Bodice is secured with hooks and eyes down the center front and is lined with a brown cotton and the hem is lined with a sweet calico. Formerly the bodice was boned, and while the boning channels remain, the boning has since been removed.
Lovingly hand stitched and mended over the years many times. This dress is a treasure!

This dress has some obvious condition issues, but she presents beautifully due to the striking colors and bold print.
- Several mends including multiple patches
- Many splits and small holes in the fabric
- A few missing and/or replaced hooks and eyes
- Some pins in the hem where it has come undone (please be careful not to get poked!)
- Boning is gone from inside bodice lining
- Bodice lining has discoloration
This piece is best for study or display, and due to the fragile nature of such an old piece I would not recommend wearing it.
