This wonderful piece is an early form of the modern bra. Circa 1900s, it may be by the maker Ferris, though it does not have any tags or markings.
It is very unusual, with two separate boned cups and twill straps with metal buckles. Its appearance is very much like our modern bras, which is what I find unusual about this piece, because most of the early brassieres did not look like this.
These early brassieres went by a variety of different names and came in many different shapes and styles. I have seen them referred to as bust improvers, bust bodices, bust forms, and even dress forms, in addition to being called brassieres.
Would make a wonderful addition to an antique lingerie collection or museum acquisition.

Back strap and strap between cups are adjustable. Cups measure 10" total in height and 7.25" across and the widest.

Lovely condition overall, wonderful for display. It is clean and free of odors, all parts present.
The cups tend to wrinkle and fold with not padded out. Although it is sturdy, not fragile, and could be worn, I don't think it would be very comfortable by modern standards. Likely best for display or pattern-making.
